This is a Mattereum Asset Passport. It is used to prove the value of physical objects. The physical objects are usually stored in a vault and bound to an Ethereum blockchain NFT. The Mattereum Asset Passport is made of a series of signed legal statements about the valuable attributes of the physical object. In most cases, you can buy a legal warranty on these legal statements, protecting you in case of error or fraud.

Disputes are heard using special legal procedures, suitable for resolving disputes of these kinds, made binding under the 1958 New York Convention on Arbitration.

Certification Description

The "mood ring" category was created by Josh Reynolds and initially marketed as the "Mood Stone" ring in August 1975. The original Mood Stone rings were cast in sterling silver and gold plated silver ("Vermeil"). Massive PR featured the Mood Stone as ‘a ring of truth’. This was based on certain principles of “psycho-physiology” and further research by the inventor leading to the design of the original Mood Stone as a calibrated thermal biosensor of relative states of nervous system activity, typically reflecting emotions, such as fear and anxiety. Mood rings not only became one of the major fashion crazes of the 1970s, they are widely considered a unique cultural icon in the history of pop culture artefacts.

The silver and gold plated mood rings were mass produced and sold for $45 ($227 in today’s value) by major department stores throughout the United States. However, only a very few 14 carat gold Mood Stone rings were manufactured and either sold or given to a few Q-trans' backers. To this day the Certifier believes that only one ring, as described below, survived the 40+ years since its manufacture.

An original 14K gold Mood Stone ring, has an identifying inscription on the inner band - "MOOD ⍬ STONE 14K". The stone is no longer functional as its thermochromic liquid crystal material loses its temperature-colour responsiveness over time. The ring comes with its original velvet pouch and the original, proprietary Mood Stone Living Color guide.

Producer

Josh Reynolds, of Q-Tran Ltd

Date Of Production

1975

Place Of Origin

New York City, New York

Materials And Techniques

A 14K gold ring set with an oval quartz crystal cabochon (the "stone"), with thermochromic liquid crystal "film" (with specifically engineered temperature-colour parameters) bonded to the bottom of stone with a specific "epoxy" with multiple specifications. Rings were either cast in wax or "fabricated".

Measurements

Ring band thickness: 5mm

Stone: 12x16mm oval.

Provenance

The Certified Gold Mood Stone Ring had only one owner, Joseph DioGuardi, former US Congressman and financial backer of the Company. The ring has been maintained in a safe deposit box of Mr DioGuardi's since its manufacture in the summer of 1975.

Research Record

The Mood Stone evolved out of extensive "psycho-physiologic" testing of hundreds of "subjects" at the Stress Transformation Center, a division of Q-Tran Ltd in New York City, New York. Testing established correlations between finger temperature (modulated by peripheral blood flow) and associated "mood", or emotional states (e.g., fear, anxiety versus calm and relaxed), reflecting autonomic nervous system activity levels. Stone colour-rendering "thermochromic" cholesteric liquid crystal materials were then calibrated to have colour reflect relatively specific nervous system activity levels reflecting associated mood and stress <> relaxation states.

The rings were immensely popular and attracted a wave of publicity starting with the Eugenia Sheppard New York Post article arranged by DioGuardi. Articles about Reynolds and his "ring of truth" were featured in People Magazine, the New York Times, the New York Post and the Daily News, along with major newspapers and TV newscasts throughout the US. Within weeks it was reported that celebrities, such as Dustin Hoffman, Barbra Streisand, Ali McGraw, Steve McQueen, Sophia Lauren, Polly Bergen, Mohammed Ali and Cher and others were all wearing and showing off their Mood Stone rings. The following references are but a few of the many news articles and stories that drove the historic success of the Mood Stone ring:
